George V Sterling Silver Torah Shield (TAS), Joseph Zweig, London, 1920.
The shield is made with scrolled foliate chased border, applied with two pillars, two ramping lions and a Torah crown topped with a Star of David (all gilt).
The center of the shield is applied with The Tables of The Decalogue which open on hinges to reveal a miniature model of a Torah scroll (both gilt, the miniature Torah is a later replacement).
Also applied with a gilt plaque box with a gilt silver plaque inscribed in Hebrew “Sabbath” on one side and “Passover” on the other.
Inscribed in English “Presented to the Central Synagogue by Max Ribatzkie Esq in memory of his dear departed father Mr. Hyman Ribatzkie February 9th 1921”, also engraved with a hebrew dedication.
Two vacant pendent shields.
Connected with a hanging chain.
Fully hallmarked (several times) for London, England, dated 1920, maker’s mark for Joseph Zweig.
