Important Torah Ark Curtain (Parochet), Matersdorf – Pressburg, Germany, Ca 1860.
Large curtain with a smaller, upper curtain (Kaporet) for the Torah ark.
Velvet curtain, adorned with gold and silver threaded embroideries, lions and the two tables of the covenant, with metal bells.
The upper curtain is embroidered with the words “Kodesh La-Hashem”.
According to the family, who brought the curtain from Hungary, this curtain had been used at the Pressburg community Synagogue.
Dark maroon (faded) velvet curtain and upper curtain, adorned with plant and star themed embroideries and 6 metal bells.
Very good condition, minor tears, the curtain and the Kaporet were professionally restored in the “Eretz Israel Museum” in Tel-Aviv.
