Of rectangular form with wavy borders, engined turned ornaments to front and back, the sides are engraved with scroll foliate ornaments, the hinged lis with a vacant cartouche (not monogrammed).
The gilt (gold washed) interior is made with a hinged grille pierced and engraved with floral and foliate ornaments.
Fully hallmarked for Birmingham, England, dated 1851, maker’s mark for the renowned silversmith Edward Smith.
