Vintage “Vaad Ha’yeshivoth” Tzedakah Charity Box, Jerusalem, 1940’s
Of rectangular form, painted in blue, with a slot on top for inserting the charity.
Inscribed on the front in Hebrew “Vaad Ha’Yeshivoth Be’Eretz Israel Ha’Merkaz B’ir Ha’Kodesh Yerusahelm”, adorned with a Sefer Torah topped by a Torah crown, inscribed with the biblical phrase “Ki M’Zion Titse Torah V’Dvar Adonay Me’Yerushalim”.
On one side it is inscribed in Hebrew “Vaad Ha’Yeshivoth B’Eretz Israel” on top and describes below it their activities, bottomed by their address: “Main office: Jerusalem, P.O. 5008”. The other side is inscribed in Hebrew “Vaad Ha’Yeshivoth was founded in Vilna by the genius Rabbies “Ha’Hefetz Chaim” and Chaim Ozer Grodznesky. Settled in Palestine in 1941 by Herzog, Chief Rabbi to Palestine and on the head of the executive committee that was Rabbi Melzer”.
The back is inscribed in Hebrew “Mouro Jerusalem”.
